Nice record shots Mike given the dreary conditions, mine were too poor to blog; I wonder where you were standing? I bumped into Andrew King (Brecon Bird Recorder) and we were watching just north of the bay at SO05381385. Anyone listing should note that last night, at least when I was there, the birds were outside of the Merthyr boundary at SO055136, though both came in from the Merthyr side. If I heard Andrew correctly I think he said the Glauc was a first for Brecon (or was it his first for Brecon, I'm not sure), anyway a good inland record all the same.

Hi Barry,

these shots were taken on the evening of Monday the 4th in the company of Mark Waldron. The Glauc was first observed at 1550 just north of the dam with just 3 other gulls. Early birds often hang around in this area apparently waiting for the main influx to begin when they then join the main north roost. The Glauc is seen flying from the south to the north roost. If you are visiting from the south check the dam area any time after 1530. The bottom pic is the Iceland. To get the best views of the north roost park at the small stone valve house and step over fence to fishing area.

Well done PB for finding. The Glauc was at Dowlais at 1100 in field with c400 HG just north of top pond at rear of ASDA's.

Thanks Mike, the small stone valve house is where I found Andrew. Well done relocating the Glauc at Dowlias today.
