Welcome to the GRC Recorders pages. This blog provides details on all the relevant news of Glamorgan’s scarcer birds, plus all BBRC & WRP decisions that affect us locally. It will also be used to document the status and occurrence of these scarcer species and we welcome contributions from anyone with photographs, artwork or documentation of rarities past, present and future. The GRC also welcomes all seawatching news from around Glamorgan and news of passage migrants in spring & autumn, uncommon birds in our area and unusual behaviour.

The Glamorgan Rarities Committee, in conjunction with the Glamorgan Bird Club & Gower Wildlife , have agreed to co-operate with the Welsh Ornithological Society in the sharing of bird records & photographs in the interest of keeping accurate records and to promote birdwatching in North, Mid & South Wales.

Turtle Dove in Llantrisant
A Turtle Dove was seen & photographed in a Llantrisant Garden by Sandra Stroud. The bird was ringed with a yellow band on left leg & a blue band on the right. The bird was present 3rd, 4th & 5th July.
Dr Jenny Dunn (Conservation Scientist), RSPB, The Lodge, wrote: Hi Barry, I can't see a metal ring on this bird, which would suggest that it's an escape. All wild-caught ringed birds have a metal ring on one leg, and (for birds ringed by my UK project) a single colour ring on the right leg (metal ring on the left). I'm not aware of any other colour ringing projects with this species currently. Sorry I can't be of more help - more detailed photos might be of help if the bird is still around - the blue ring looks as though it may have white lettering on it? Best wishes, Jenny
