GRC Blog


Welcome to the GRC Recorders pages. This blog provides details on all the relevant news of Glamorgan’s scarcer birds, plus all BBRC & WRP decisions that affect us locally. It will also be used to document the status and occurrence of these scarcer species and we welcome contributions from anyone with photographs, artwork or documentation of rarities past, present and future. The GRC also welcomes all seawatching news from around Glamorgan and news of passage migrants in spring & autumn, uncommon birds in our area and unusual behaviour.

Blog content will be strictly moderated. Access to pages and downloads are available to everyone. All photographs on this blog remain the property of the originator. If you would like to use photos, please arrange permission beforehand.


The Glamorgan Rarities Committee, in conjunction with the Glamorgan Bird Club & Gower Wildlife , have agreed to co-operate with the Welsh Ornithological Society in the sharing of bird records & photographs in the interest of keeping accurate records and to promote birdwatching in North, Mid & South Wales.

2015 - Lesser Scaup: Has anyone got any dates for the drake Lesser Scaup in Cardiff Bay & CBWR from 19th June to 11th July? The last date I have for this bird is 18th June in Cardiff Bay. Any info would be of help. A drake Lesser Scaup (quite possibly ours) turned up at Blagdon Res., nr. Bristol 12th July and was still present on 30th July. Many thanks. DRWG

I haven't any dates to help out with. If the bird at Blagdon is the same individual it will be back over here no doubt, though we may need to wait a while, I gather it is in eclipse and every chance it is currently flightless. Up until its disappearance from the Bay the bird had been seen courting female Tufted, indeed it was trying its luck with one when I saw it at Llanishen Res in May. I think there's sufficient evidence to warrant submission of details to the RBBP.
